* changing tides ,
It's been twenty - four years since the great Lord Voldemort
was defeated. Twenty - four years of peace and calm in the
wizarding world. With Kingsley Shacklebolt as the new Minister
of Magic, things have been going even smoother than had
been anticipated. There were no wars, no choosing of sides,
and no problems in the wizarding world. He had perfect
control over everything that was under his command. But
excluded from that list, was Hogwarts.
•••
You see, eight years ago Hogwarts was put under the control
of a new Headmaster. At first, everyone thought he was
insane and couldn't do nearly as good of a good as McGonagall
had right before him. Their opinions soon changed though,
after he started a ceremony he called The Bonding Ceremony.
At first, students and teachers alike were quite skeptical on
how everything was going to work, and if it was even going
to work at all. Nonetheless, the fifth, sixth, and seventh
years still lined up in two long rows the night of the Bonding
Ceremony. The younger students waited outside of the
Great Hall doors, eagerly waiting to see the outcome of the
Ceremony.
•••
But then something very unexpected happened. None of the
students walked out with a familiar, like everyone had
thought. There were no animals that came out of the doors,
just the same students that had gone in an hour ago. So
they all questioned the students involved, where were the
familiars they had been told about? It was then that the
headmaster had exited the Great Hall and explained to them
all, that as promised, students would get a familiar. But only
half of the student body would. The rest, on the other
hand, would be a familiar.
•••
The students and teachers still have not come up with a
proper explanation on how a familiar is chosen. They do
understand the general logic of it. Every year, only the fifth
years walk into the great hall, they stand in two parallel lines,
one with boys and the other with girls, and they are paired
off. Except they are not always coed pairs. It has rarely
happened that masters will choose a familiar that is of the
same sex, not that they have much of a choice. The magical
bond pulls them together, moving them to their familiar or
master, and imprints each with the same mark on their bodies.
The mark will resemble a normal birthmark, and not many can
tell the difference. No two bonding marks are alike, except for
the bonded pair. Some speculate and say that the bonding is
all random, while some say that they are soul mates and were
meant to be together, but for whatever reason, they shall
remain bonded together forever.
•••
The idea has intrigued both the Headmistress of Beauxbatons
and the Headmaster of Durmstrang, and this school year the
students of both schools will be joining the ceremony at
Hogwarts. Those who will be bonded with a student of
Hogwarts will get the oppurtunity to stay the rest of the year
at the castle, for a chance to stay with their familiar. For all the
others, what will happen is still to be decided.
